Project contributions
By acquiring project contributions, so-called third-party funds, our researchers make an important contribution to the excellent positioning of our university.
Third-party funds may be contributions from public institutions as well as from industry or private individuals for research, services and continuing education.
A prerequisite for the realization of third-party funded projects is basic infrastructural equipment. However, the costs for space, infrastructure or administration (so-called overhead) are not or only partially borne by the funders.
Only from governmental institutions (Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), EU, Innosuisse or National Institutes of Health (NIH)) we usually receive an overhead contribution, which contributes to the central financing of the infrastructure (50%) as well as to the coverage of decentralized costs of the institutes and faculties (20% each) and the researchers (10%).
In continuing education and service projects we charge an overhead contribution. Therefore, before acquiring third-party funded projects, the total cost of funds required must be calculated.
The UZH Foundation supports you in the acquisition of third-party funds.
In the annual report, you will find the third-party funds in the "Separate Account" segment.
